A fictitious speech by Samuel Adams

Who was Sam Adams?  I’ve concocted this fictitious speech to introduce you to the man in, hopefully, an entertaining way.  This man should be an inspiration to us all.  I hope he’s an inspiration to you.  If this teaser peeks your interest, there are many good books written on this great man.

Sam Adams Speech (fictitious):

My fellow countrymen.  I am not the fine gentleman you take me for, I am a Rabble-Rouser.  Although an educated man, I am not an educator.  My words are not meant to educate, there are plenty of bow tied scholars for that, my words are meant to light the fires in the hearts of men.  To inflame their passions like the seductive whisper of a mistress as her hot breath hits your ear.  To spur them to action and set them to purpose.  Lest idle hands make them complacent, the fires must ever be stoked.

I refuse to allow Liberty to die, not while I’m alive.  Liberty is not something to be abandoned for the sake of convenience.  There can be no compromise.

The King demands our servitude.  His enforcers, his tax collectors, his soldiers walk freely among us.  They live in our towns.  They harass, assault and rob our friends and family, they invade our homes at will.  Does this not enrage you?

While some would advise temperance, I counsel action in both words and deeds.

“It does not take a majority to prevail… but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.”  –  Samuel Adams

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”  –  Samuel Adams
“Without the character of Samuel Adams, the true history of the American Revolution can never be written.”  –  John Adams

“[Samuel Adams] The patriarch of Liberty”  –  Thomas Jefferson
